Make Sure Your Local Move Is Safe and Efficient

Even a local move can feel like a daunting task. It’s a lot of work, and you want to make sure everything and everyone arrives at your new home safely. As your professional mover, we want this to be an enjoyable experience. That’s why we recommend the following safety tips to ensure the entire process goes off without a hitch.

Clear Your Walkways

You’ll be rushing back and forth carrying boxes and furniture. It’s important to remove any obstacles from your hallways, stairs, and sidewalks. This could be things like shoes left by the doorways or throw rugs in the main walkways. You don’t want anyone to trip. Furthermore, be sure to point out any uneven surfaces to anyone who’s helping you.

Dress Appropriately

You need to wear clothes that allow you to move freely. Wear layers for cold days and add a water-repellent jacket when it rains. Make sure you have comfortable closed-toe shoes with plenty of traction, too.

Pack and Lift Properly

It’s tempting to put as much as you can in every box, but don’t overload them. Try picking boxes up before you seal them to ensure they won’t be too heavy to lift safely. When lifting these boxes, bend at your knees and lift with your back. Hold heavy items close to your body. You can also utilize dollies and hand trucks to make it easier on you.

Take Breaks

Moving is a physically demanding job. By taking frequent small breaks, you’ll avoid injuring yourself and be able to maintain your energy level. Remember to grab some water during those breaks. You need to stay hydrated.

Protect Children and Pets

It’s so easy for a small child or a pet to wander off or get hurt during a move. There are so many things they can get into. Designate to one adult the sole job of watching pets and children. If you can find a friend or family member who can take them for the day, it’s even better.

Use Care With Sharp Items

As you are packing, you’ll be emptying junk drawers, desks, and other areas where you’ll come across sharp items. Take the time to wrap knives, scissors, and tools carefully before putting them in a box. You don’t want to get hurt reaching into these boxes when you arrive at your new home.

Make sure you don’t pack away the first aid kit as you gather up all of your belongings. Keep it out where you can grab it quickly. Hopefully, you won’t need it, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Contact us at Integrity Movers in Warren, MI for more information on local moving.
